Bossier Parish issue: To zone or not to zone?
(2008-09-17)
(wrkf) - Rural Bossier Parish residents may soon be facing something new: zoning requirements that determine how they can use their land and what they can build on it.

The Bossier Parish Police Jury is considering whether to extend zoning control past the corporate limits of Benton and Bossier City, perhaps covering the entire parish.

At the Police Jury's request, a consulting firm has been studying the issue. The jury has options that include doing nothing, expanding the areas now covered by Benton's and Bossier City's planning commissions or making parish-wide zoning requirements. Backers of zoning requirements say they could prevent controversies such as whether a wrecking yard can be placed next to a person's residence.
