Jindal unhappy with food stamp program
And he says while it's improved, it's still not good enough.
When the food stamp program began Tuesday, hours-long lines awaited applicants and many were turned away because the application centers were overloaded and couldn't handle the crush of people.
The situation greatly improved Wednesday, with the social services department hiring additional staff, lengthening hours for assistance centers and greatly reducing wait times. Social Services Secretary Ann Williamson took full responsibility for any shortcomings.
Jindal says people coping in the aftermath of Gustav shouldn't have to deal with problems in recovery programs. And he says the swarm of people at the sites wasn't a sufficient excuse for the long waits and lack of supplies for people left waiting in the heat Tuesday. © Copyright 2009, wrkf
