La. high court upholds death sentence
The court also refused Tuesday to overturn a jury's first-degree murder conviction of Henry Joseph Anderson in the death of 85-year-old Oneatha Brinson.
A week after Brinson hired Anderson to cut her grass, he allegedly returned to her home, stabbed her 10 times and left her to die on her kitchen floor as he drove away in her car.
Anderson claims he is mentally retarded and says his execution would amount to cruel and unusual punishment, but the Supreme Court rejected that argument. The court also concluded he was competent to stand trial. © Copyright 2009, wrkf
