FEMA extends aid deadline
The program was set to expire Friday, the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
Jim Stark, with FEMA's Gulf Coast recovery office, says the storms forced more than 1.2 million families from their homes. He says the agency urges families who haven't applied for the program and reimbursement of up to $4,000 in relocation expenses to do so.
There are limits. For example, FEMA says applicants cannot have received funds from other subsidized travel-home programs.
To date, FEMA says, more than $15.7 million has helped 8,889 families with moving and transportation costs due to the hurricanes. © Copyright 2009, wrkf
