Changes ahead for state after-school programs
(2008-08-25)
(wrkf) - Louisiana's Board of Elementary and Secondary Education has voted to improve oversight of three after-school programs that were under fire fire for allegedly lax controls.

The programs include "After School for All," which is designed to reduce the number of out-of-wedlock births through tutoring, youth development and other steps. Also due for changes are the "Community-based Tutoring Program" and the "21st Century Community Learning Centers" program.

The programs came under fire earlier this year in a report done by officials at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
