Africanized honeybees found in Winn Parish
The bees were trapped June 24 in Winn Parish and sent to a research center in Arizona for testing.
State Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain announced the test results Monday. Strain says the discovery two miles southeast of Joyce isn't a surprise because the bees were trapped about 20 miles east of where Africanized bees were found in LaSalle Parish in June.
Africanized honeybees were first discovered in Louisiana in July 2005. They sting in greater masses than European bees and can lead to toxic reactions in people. © Copyright 2009, wrkf
