Prairieville considers incorporation PRAIRIEVILLE, LA. (AP) (wrkf) - Some Prairieville residents and business owners are talking about incorporating into a new Ascension Parish city.

Members of the group have met twice.

Doug Hillensbeck, a former Ascension Parish councilman, says the Baton Rouge loop project is what got the effort started.

At one point, a potential route for the proposed interstate loop around Baton Rouge passed through Prairieville. That route has since been eliminated from consideration.

Hillensbeck says there other concerns, especially about local growth that appears to be out of control.

Hillensbeck says incorporation is still in the talking stage.

He says the population of the proposed city would be about 30,000. That means 7,500 residents or 25 percent would have to petition the governor to call a special election on incorporation. © Copyright 2009, wrkf
