Bond Issue Series, Part 5: Alive!
BATON ROUGE, LA
(wrkf) -
This is the 5th part of WRKF's series examining the Bond Issue proposal before East Baton Rouge Parish voters Saturday, November 14th. $225 million of the $901 million total bond issue would be spent on a riverfront development called Alive. The entertainment and educational venue is easily the most controversial element in the bond issue.
Some people question why the city government is involved in a for profit development. Others are concerned that a legal dispute over land rights between a railroad company and the city will stop the development before it starts. Still more people doubt the venue's ability to turn a profit and thereby reduce the amount of time need for the city to repay the bonds.
