Home Sales in Illinois
The organization clocked an 8 and a half percent spike in sales from March.
Chicago Pubic Radio's Diantha Parker reports.
Almost 9 and a half thousand homes changed hands in Illinois in April.
That's a much lower number than April of 2007--when 13 thousand were sold.
But as sales have gone up this year, the median price of a house in Illinois has gone down.
This April it was 187 thousand dollars, down from 200 thousand in March.
Kay Wirth, president of the Illinois Association of realtors, says the state's harsh winter, rising gas and food prices and overall uncertainty about the economy have made people reluctant to buy.
Worth thinks the April numbers show a kind of spring thaw--and expects demand to increase over the summer.
