Writers at TV Stations May Strike CHICAGO, IL (wqub) - Monday newswriters at W-B-B-M and C-B-S-2 here in Chicago could go on strike.

The Writers Guild of America is expected to announce the results of its strike authorization vote this morning.

Chicago Public Radio's Diantha Parker reports.

This writers' strike, if it happens, would be in addition to the entertainment writers' walkout that began two weeks ago.

C-B-S union members in Chicago voted at a meeting Thursday night; their colleagues in New York, Los Angeles and Washington, DC voted all day Friday.

The union and CBS have been at odds since their previous contract expired in 2005.

Members rejected the network's wish for a new pay system where raises for radio newswriters would be smaller than those for television newswriters.

The union also took issue with the possibility of combining some newsroom operations.

A Writers Guild spokeswoman says an authorization vote would not mean an automatic strike--just that members could declare a strike at any time.
