Pace Chairman Optimistic on Long-term Solution
(2007-11-05)
(wqub) - Sunday would have been "doomsday" for the Chicago Transit Authority and suburban Pace Bus.
A 27 million dollar bailout helped push back cuts for both agencies to the end of the year.
Pace Chairman Richard Kwaneski says he's optimistic the General Assembly will come up with a permanent funding solution.
"It's been really traumatic not only for our agency but our riders. I mean, we have heard loud and clear at public hearings and letters - appearances at our board meetings that they can't continue to have havoc in their lives on how they're going to be able to get to work."

Pace was planning to eliminate dozens of bus routes and raise fares.

The Illinois House is expected to reconvene this week to discuss a possible long-term funding solution.
