Chicago Public Transit Adequate for Olympic Bid
But Pace Executive Director T-J Ross says that could change if proposed funding increases do not pass, and looming service cuts go into effect next week.
"I'm looking forward to the challenge of providing transportation for the 2016 Olympics, however if SB 572 that's pending in the legislature does not pass, we could be in 2016 before we recover from the loss of ridership and the loss of service in the region."
Ross spoke before a congressional subcommittee yesterday.
A member of the city's Olympic committee says public transit already reaches 90 percent of the proposed venues for the games.
He says the bid does not call for significant new transportation projects, but says upgrading the system would boost the city's chances.
