Gov Vows to Fight for Property Tax Relief
The governor wanted a permanent cap on property tax assessments.
But the General Assembly rejected the idea and passed into law a 7 percent cap that will phase out over three years.
Blagojevich says he'll keep fighting.
"They pretend like they gave you an extension on a tax cap but the real purpose was the take it away from you. But they're not taking it away from you before the next election. It happens to you right afterwards and then you don't know who did it to you."
Blagojevich says he plans to call the General Assembly back into session if they don't tackle the issue on their own.
Property tax bills currently being printed for Chicago homeowners are based on assessments made with the temporary cap.
