End of Ramadan Approaches
(2007-10-11)
(wqub) - Ramadan is almost over, but Muslims won't know exactly when to end their fast until the new moon appears in the night sky.
That will mark the end of the Islamic holy month and the start of the holiday, Eid al-Fitr, the next day.
The new moon will either appear tonight or tomorrow night.
Malik Mujahid is Chairman of the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago.

"Many people like the romantic aspect of it, that everyone is busy and thinking in anticipation whether it's tomorrow or the day after, and people think this is a part of the beauty of Eid celebration."

Some Islamic scholars say data indicates the new moon won't be seen until tomorrow.
If that's the case, the Chicago area's 400-thousand-plus Muslims will break their day-time fast on Saturday.
