Illinois Trucks Won't Go Faster
(2007-10-11)
(wqub) - Truckers who drive big-rigs through Illinois will still have to drive slower on highways than other motorists. Amanda Vinicky reports:

Republican Representative Jim Sacia says because Illinois sets the speed limit for trucks at 55 miles an hour instead of 65 ... it's a problem to take a semi through the state.

"The difference of driving on Illinois Interstates with the irregular speed limit compared to the evenness of speed limits in Missouri, is daylight and dark."
The General Assembly had agreed ... and earlier this year voted to let trucks go 65 on rural highways.
The governor vetoed the measure ... and members of the Illinois House went along with him.
Representative Monique Davis ... a Chicago Democrat ... says that's the safer choice.

"A truck that has 18 wheels, that's carrying 80-something tons, will hit you so fast ... and you will be so crushed..."
Efforts to raise the speed limit for trucks have failed several times before.
I'm Amanda Vinicky.
