Planned Parenthood to open Aurora Clinic
(2007-09-14)
(wqub) - Planned Parenthood has taken legal action to stay on track to open its new southwest suburban clinic on time. Patients have already began scheduling appointments for the Aurora clinic's expected opening next Tuesday. But the City of Aurora has not yet issued a permanent occupancy certificate. Anti-abortion groups have been protesting the site for months.
Planned Parenthood attorney, Chris Wilson, says he wants an injunction to allow the clinic to open as scheduled.

"It's absolutely clear that objections based on the type of services we're providing are not valid grounds. In fact we have a constitutionally protected right to provide abortion services in the area."

Aurora spokesperson, Carie Anne Ergo, says the city has taken no political position on the clinic. She says it's looking into how Planned Parenthood acquired the property, and that inquiry could take a few more weeks. A judge is expected to consider Planned Parenthood's motion before Tuesday's scheduled opening.
