16th Century Land of Flowers
A rare map figures in today's Geo Quiz -- This world map is more than 400 years old -- and it's generating a buzz in Washington, where it just went on display. It was commissioned by a Chinese emperor -- and created by an Italian Jesuit missionary. China is front and center in this early 17th century view of the world. The Nile River shows up prominently. And so do North and South America. One curious detail is a peninsula in North America that's labled in Chinese characters as "the Land of Flowers." Today, this peninsula is making headlines not for its flowers, but for its frozen oranges. So -- what do WE call it?
