The State of the Space
WYOMING
(wpr) -
The University of Wyoming's Rucklehouse Institute has a new report on land use trends in Wyoming. It's called the State of the Space Report - and it spends many pages looking at the trend of rural subdivisions. It finds that between 1998 and 2006, about 100-thousand acres of land in Wyoming were subdivided into lots of 35 acres or less.
The report also finds that the people buying those properties are attracted to the surrounding open space and wildlife. But in some cases those attributes are threatened by the very trend of rural subdivision. Roger Coupal is a co-author of the report and the head of UW's Department of Agriculture and Applied Economics. He told Addie Goss the trend of rural subdivisions starts with ag producers in Wyoming selling their land.
