UW Football Team Relies on Youth
WYOMING
(wpr) -
During practice this spring, first year Wyoming football Coach Dave Christensen realized that he was going to have to do something that coaches don't like to do. He was going to have to play what are termed true freshmen.
Normally when a team recruits a player out of high school, they let them sit out a year, get acclimated to college life and the team. That is called redshirting. Christensen noticed that the returning players lacked some skills and so he decided to dip into his very talented freshman recruiting class and this year six true freshman are starting for the Cowboys in a variety of positions including Quarterback. And Wyoming Public Radio's Bob Beck reports the freshmen are having an impact
