Enzi Criticizes $700 Billion Bailout
"This proposal," he said, "means a full-scale intervention of our country's free markets, with the Treasury buying every bad asset in sight with taxpayer money. To make this point clear, if approved in its current form, 700 billion dollars, this plan will cost every man, woman, and child in this country approximately 23-hundred dollars."
Enzi also criticized the Bush administration for not sending a more detailed plan to Congress for approval. He said the plan that Democratic leaders are negotiating this week needs to focus on saving families from foreclosure, and making banks accountable for their mismanagement.

Wyoming Sen. Mike Enzi today criticized the Bush administration's 700-billion dollar plan to bail out the financial industry. Enzi is a Republican member of the Senate Banking panel that grilled the Federal Reserve Chairman and Treasury Secretary today. "This proposal," he said, "means a full-scale intervention of our country's free markets, with the Treasury buying every bad asset in sight with taxpayer money. Enzi also criticized the Bush administration for not sending a more detailed plan to Congress for approval. He said the plan that Democratic leaders are negotiating this week needs to focus on saving families from foreclosure, and making banks accountable for their mismanagement.
