Trauner Explains Views on Financial Crisis
(2008-09-23)
(wpr) - One topic Trauner addressed was social security. He says Republican Cynthia Lummis' support of a market-based approach is wrong: "Privatizing social security is very good for Wall Street CEOs and money managers. But why don't we go out on the street today and ask anyone with a 401K retirement plan how their retirement security is doing right now. They'd look at me and say, you know what, you've got to be kidding me!"

Trauner also commented on the credit meltdown. He says the government should get a contingency stake in the companies that Congress bails out. That means that if the government has to sell the bad investments at a loss, it could recoup some of those losses when the companies start making money again. He also says the government should have direct oversight over the companies.
