Lawmakers May Revise Patient Rights LARAMIE, WY (wpr) - An advocate for improved medical care says Wyoming's consumer protections for health insurance are extremely low.

Greta Morrow is a member of the group C-WISH. She says several lawmakers have agreed to sponsor legislation in the upcoming session that would improve patient rights: "I have a document from Family First which lists the states down one side of the page and across the top are consumer protections. Do you want to guess how many dots Wyoming has? It's almost blank. There's almost nothing in Wyoming for consumer protections for health insurance."

Morrow says Tony Ross of Cheyenne is supporting a measure that would force an outside review process if a treatment is denied to a patient. Another proposal would ban something called discretionary clauses. She says that allows insurance companies more sway to determine what it will or will not cover.
