Wamsutter May Someday Thrive
(2008-09-18)
(wpr) - State officials are cautious but optimistic that the town of Wamsutter in southwest Wyoming can become a thriving community.

On Wednesday, the town unveiled its plan to develop commercial buildings and infrastructure to a crowd of state and local officials.

The director of Wyoming's Department of Workforce Services Joan Evans says Wamsutter will have a difficult time finding workers because of its remote location: "I think there is a certain level of skepticism, but we really can't be discouraged by that. I think this is a prime example of a community realizing they had a multitude of challenges, but they were willing to attack them one at a time, two at time, whatever it took."

Still, Evans says progress in Wamsutter has been remarkable over the past several years. But the town had some help. Wamsutter has received significant support from the energy industry to develop a childcare center and other amenities. The governor says Wamsutter is a prime candidate to receive additional state funding for curbs, gutters, and sewer infrastructure.
