DFS Will Change Approach to Child Abuse and Neglect Cases
(2008-09-17)
(wpr) - The Department of Family Services will use recommendations from a legislative report to better handle cases of child abuse and neglect. DFS Director Tony Lewis says it's key that the department identify risks within a family as soon as a case is assigned. He says that is a challenge when the court sets short deadlines.

Lewis says the other challenge is to overcome staffing shortages...especially in areas of the state that are experiencing the energy boom. Lewis says improvements need to be made and welcomes the list of suggestions.
