Statewide Smoking Ban Back on the Table
(2008-09-16)
(wpr) - Legislators today discussed banning smoking in public places across the state. Wyoming is the only western state without a statewide smoking ban. Katherine Hooper from Powell hopes to change that: "From second hand smoke I ended up with cancer on the voice box. So I have no saliva glands. They burned all the glands."

Hooper spoke before the legislative Labor Committee today.

Past attempts at a statewide smoking ban have failed. But Hooper and others are hopeful public opinion may buoy the measure this time. A poll last fall found two-thirds of Wyoming voters support a smoking ban. The committee plans to draft a bill on the issue for its next meeting in early December.
