Hydrocarbons found in Pinedale anticline
found for the first time in a livestock water well bordering a natural gas drilling area in southwest Wyoming.
The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality and the Bureau of Land Management say the stock well is on the edge of the
Pinedale Anticline, where gas drilling has been occurring. Officials say the concentrations of hydrocarbons found in the
well were tiny. But Pinedale BLM Office Director Chuck Otto says the presence of
hydrocarbons is a concern. The state hasn't determined the source of the hydrocarbons but the nearby oil and gas drilling is suspected. Local residents opposed to intense drilling in the area have
expressed concern about water pollution.
