Minerals committee hears uranium idea
"We don't really have any U-W graduates currently going into the uranium business. So it's not just benefit to the industry in terms of improving recovery. It's also building a workforce."
Northam says it's not even clear whether this program would make economic sense... but he's confident uranium production will grow in Wyoming. The state is currently the number one producer of uranium in the nation.

Growing support for nuclear power has a legislative committee looking into a new uranium program at the University of Wyoming. Mark Northam directs U-W's School of Energy Resources. He discussed the uranium proposal with the legislature's minerals committee today (Tuesday). Northam says the new uranium program would hire about four new U-W faculty members, who would focus on improving uranium mining technology and managing groundwater. He says the committee agreed that would be a good start."We don't really have any U-W graduates currently going into the uranium business.
