Wamsutter Tries to Survive Booms and Busts WYOMING (wpr) - The town of Wamsutter has been many things. It got its start in the 1860s as a roundhouse, where railroad engines could turn around and head back east. It's been a sheep shearing town and an oil town. Through all of that, it's been a humble, hardscrabble place. Now, the business is natural gas. BP - the company doing the most drilling around Wamsutter - says the amount of gas there is huge. Production could continue for 50 years and maybe as long as 80. The town is trying to find a path to long-term stability, and BP and the state are putting up millions to try to make that happen.
