Casper Star Tribune poll has Meyer and Mead leading
(2010-07-30)
(wpr) - The Casper Star Tribune has a new poll showing Auditor Rita Meyer has a slight lead over Matt Mead in the Republican primary for governor. Wyoming Public Radio's Renny MacKay reports.

The Star Tribune will have more poll results over the coming days, but what is out now is the results of a poll of likely Republican voters. It asked for views on the gubernatorial candidates. It shows a virtual tie between Rita Meyer and former U-S Attorney Matt Mead. Meyer has 27 percent of support. Mead has 24 percent. That is inside the margin of error. Speaker of the House Colin Simpson garnered 17 percent and Ron Micheli is at 12 percent of respondents. The top candidates finished in this same order in terms of favorability as well.
Micheli's campaign manager questioned the validity of the poll saying it did not match up with their internal numbers. The editor of the Star Tribune says they are confident in the numbers and this poll has been accurate over the years.
No other candidate has commented. The Star Tribune poll said 18 percent of those polled are undecided right now.
For Wyoming Public Radio, I'm Renny MacKay.
