State: Falling pipes killed oil field worker
(2010-07-28)
(wpr) - State worker safety officials say nearly 50 tons of falling pipe killed a man at a recently drilled oil well in Niobrara County.

The accident July 20 killed Boyd Bannan about 40 miles north of Lusk.

J.D. Danni with the state worker safety program says Bannan was a laborer for Buck Creek Freight, a company that does work for the oil and gas industry.

Danni says a 4 1/2-foot-tall rack holding 93,000 pounds of well casing joints collapsed on Bannan. The well operator was Lusk-based Timberline Production Company LLC and the drilling contractor was Capstar Drilling, Inc., based in Odessa, Texas.
