Lummis backs bill to reduce Congress salaries
(2010-03-08)
(wpr) - Wyoming U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis is backing a bill that would cut her own salary. The proposal is for a five-percent pay cut for both Houses of Congress, starting next year. Arizona Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick sponsored the bill, which Lummis says would institute the first pay cut for members of Congress since 1933. She says this is about standing with other Americans: "The time really has come for members of Congress to share some of the, this economic downturn, with the American people, so I'm delighted to co-sponsor Representative Kirkpatrick's bill."

According to the group Open Secrets, Lummis is the seventh-richest member of the House, with a minimum net worth of 13 million dollars and a maximum net worth of 84 million.
