Decision on sage grouse set for Friday
(2010-03-04)
>>>
(wpr) - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is expected to announce tomorrow whether it will move the greater sage grouse to the Endangered Species List. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar will hold a press conference to discuss the bird's status at 11:30 tomorrow morning.
Wyoming is home to more than half of the remaining greater sage grouse, and a listing could have a dramatic effect on extractive industries. Governor Freudenthal's office has said that 87 percent of Wyoming coal production and 83 percent of natural gas production would be impacted by such a decision.
