Conservation groups will try to stop oil and gas lease
"All of the places we have to drill, all of these major oil and gas basins that have already been committed to full development. There are hardly places left that are as wild and beautiful and spectacular as Adobe town. We don't need to be moving into this area with drilling rigs"
Molvar says conservation groups are discussing ways to prevent the sale from occurring.

The Bureau of Land Management is planning a massive oil and gas lease sale this December for land in the Adobe Town area of Sweetwater County. Opposition was widespread from the Governor's office to the Sweetwater County Commissioners. That's because the area is designated as rare and uncommon by the state. But the B-L-M has decided that mitigation can allow drilling with no significant impact. Biodiversity Conservation Alliance Director Erik Molvar contends that there is no reason to drill in this area."All of the places we have to drill, all of these major oil and gas basins that have already been committed to full development. There are hardly places left that are as wild and beautiful and spectacular as Adobe town. We don't need to be moving into this area with drilling rigs"
