UW announces climate action plan
(2009-09-16)
>>>
(wpr) - The University of Wyoming has finished its Climate Action Plan - a phased-in effort to become carbon neutral by the year 20-50. The plan involves reducing the school's electricity use and coal consumption. University of Wyoming spokeswoman Jessica Lowell says many things will have to happen to achieve that goal. One step is to continue researching technologies like carbon sequestration and coal gasification.
"The university's goal really is to institute a sustainable culture among students, faculty and staff, and a really important part of the plan is research."
Other major parts of the plan are facility upgrades on campus, changing people's energy use habits, and developing university courses on sustainability. The first goal in the University's plan is to reduce greenhouse gases to 15 percent of 2005 levels....by the year 20-15.
