UW gets carbon sequestration grant LARAMIE, WY (wpr) - The Department of Energy announced yesterday that the University of Wyoming will receive one of 19 grants to research carbon sequestration. That's the process in which carbon dioxide is injected and stored in the earth's subsurface. Subhashis (su BA shish) Mallick is the principal investigator overseeing the grant. He says understanding how carbon dioxide moves after sequestration is a key question, and the focus of this research.
"It will enable us to see if we can monitor the carbon dioxide after sequestration. And also it will let us detect if there is a leakage."
The Department of Energy grant gives just over 1 million dollars for three years of investigation. Mallik says it's theoretical research that can be applied to on-the-ground work in Wyoming.
