Methane found in Pavillion water wells
Some Pavillion residents blame contamination from gas production near their homes. But at a public meeting this week, federal officials said they don't yet know the source of the contaminants or how much of a health risk they could cause. EnCana is the company doing the gas production near Pavillion. Company spokesman Randy Teeuwen says there's no evidence the contaminants came from EnCana: "They have identified compounds that have a wide range of sources including household chemicals, electronic components, there was methane found in some wells but according to the EPA that could also be naturally occurring."
The EPA is planning to do further tests to determine the source. Teeuwen says EnCana is assisting the EPA and will continue to do so.
