Freudenthal Reacts to Wolves
(2008-09-17)
(wpr) - Governor Dave Freudenthal says the state may have to clarify parts of its wolf management plan. Yesterday a wildlife official said the federal government will stop its attempt to de-list wolves. A federal judge has cited Wyoming's wolf management plan as a problem, saying it does not have enough protections for wolves.

Governor Freudenthal said today the state will have to better explain parts of the plan: "We've been looking at some things that we could do within our rules that would try to make clearer some things that we thought were clear that the judge didn't see."

For example, Freudenthal says the state has the option to expand protections if the animal's population drops too low. But the governor says it's too soon to know exactly what needs to be done to get de-listing back on track.
