Carbon County agrees to new wind farms
approved the construction of two new wind farms on land zoned for ranching, agriculture and mining in the eastern part of the county.
The planning commission on Wednesday issued a conditional use permit for PacifiCorp's High Plains and McFadden Ridge wind
projects.
The project is now subject to approval by the Wyoming Industrial Siting Council, which will consider the issue next week.
PacifiCorp officials say the project will produce a total of 188 megawatts, or enough electricity to power about 188,000 homes.
The company says it will control dust on roads leading to the windmills and will work closely with landowners to control weeds.
It also says it has a detailed plan for decommissioning the turbines when they reach the end of their life spans. © Copyright 2012, wpr
