Candidates Go Negative
(2008-08-12)
(wpr) - With just days to go before the Wyoming
primary, two Republican candidates vying for the state's lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives are turning up the heat with negative ads.

A TV commercial paid for by the campaign of Mark Gordon implies fellow candidate Cynthia Lummis would worsen the nation's problems if elected. The ad shows a little girl in a sandbox digging herself into a hole.

Meanwhile, Lummis' campaign has mailed a flier that depicts Gordon as an environmentalist who might oppose coal-fired power plants and other cheap sources of energy.

Both candidates say the ads about them are distortions.

Gordon and Lummis, along with Michael Holland and Bill Winney, will be on the ballot in Tuesday's Republican primary. The winner will face Democrat Gary Trauner in November.

Gordon, Lummis and Winney will debate each other this Friday, August 15, on Wyoming Public Radio's Open Spaces.
