Ozone levels worry Sublette County
(2008-02-27)
(wpr) - The state Department of Environmental Quality has issued an air pollution advisory for the Upper Green River Basin.

The department says elevated levels of ozone could cause breathing problems for children, the elderly, and people with existing respiratory conditions.

The mayor of Pinedale, Steve Smith, says that this is the first time his area has gotten this kind of warning. He says people in Pinedale will likely react.

"Historically, that's been one our greatest draws. We have a lot of great things in Sublette County, but clean air and clean water have always been at the very top," Smith said.

The DEQ says the pollution advisory could be in effect for several days. The advisory comes just one week after the federal Environmental Protection Agency criticized the proposed land-use plan for Pinedale, saying it could create unacceptable levels of air pollution.
