Attorney General challenges Yellowstone decision in court
(2007-12-17)
(wpr) - The debate over snowmobiles in Yellowstone National Park rages on.

The Attorney General's Office filed a petition in federal court seeking a review of the National Park Service's latest Yellowstone winter-use plan.

Deputy Attorney General Jay Jerde says the office is contesting limits on snowmobiles in the park and the closure of Sylvan pass in the winter.

"You can look at the issues in our petition and you can see where we have had continuing differences with the Park Service with how they have done the scientific studies leading up to their decisions on those main issues," Jerde says.

Jerde says that if the court agrees with the state, the National Park Service will have to revise its plan.

No date is set for the petition's review.
