Christie American Horse was brought up drawing in the shadow of the Big Horn Mountains. Her father, Fred Goehring, was a fantastic (unsung) artist in his own right. He brought his girls up with a creative spirit. Christie was then influenced by a host of talented and accomplished artists such as Nancy Buening, Jane Skaar Coleman, Ed Murphy, & many other local and regional artists. American Horse
attended Northwest Nazarene University in Idaho, graduating with degrees in art, social welfare & applied studies, with a minor in Spanish. She studied graphic design at Northwest College & Community College of Denver. After years of teaching in Los Angeles, Mexico, Montana, and Wyoming, Christie has returned to her roots in Sheridan.
