Farmers Markets Get Federal Funding WASHINGTON D.C. (WOUB) - The Farmers Market in Athens is getting a little help - thanks to federal funds aimed at promoting farmers markets across the country.

Senator Sherrod Brown announced today 213-thousand dollars will be given to Ohio Farmers Markets, with 36,500 of that going to Appalachian Center for Economic Networks in Athens.

More than 42-thousand dollars will go to Chillicothe Farmers Market Association and nearly 54-thousand dollars will go to The Ohio State University Research Foundation in Piketon.

The new federal grants are being awarded through USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service.
