Ohio University Retention
(2008-09-10)
(WOUB) - Ohio University officials report things are looking good with student enrollment and retention but not so good as far as the state budget is concerned.

The bad news first -- President Roderick McDavis says the state budget is a concern because revenue is down from what was expected and unemployment is high.

O-U administrators are going to develop a contingency budget plan...since the university relies heavily on its state subsidy.

As for the good news -- nearly 15-thousand prospective students sent in applications.

That's a record.

"We have built a class that is strong on quality and diversity", says Provost Kathy Krendl.

And she says preliminary retention figures indicate the university could exceed its goal of bringing back freshmen for their sophomore year.
