OUPD chief quits
(WOUB) - Ohio University Police Department Chief Mike Martinsen is quitting.

Martinsen will leave effective September 30th to pursue a new job in the Cincinnati area.

He says it's an opportunity for him professionally and will allow him to spend more time with family.

While he was here, Martinsen formalized O-U's training and investigative team operations, increased the officer training budget and hired six new police officers to improve campus safety.

He says the department is stronger and healthier now than when he arrived two years ago.

O-U says there will be a national search to replace Martinsen on a permanent basis and an interim chief of police will be named before Martinsen leaves.
