Athens man promoting issues at Democratic Convention
(WOUB) - According to one estimate, a quarter of the more than 4,200 delegates to the Democratic National Convention are active or retired union members or union household members.

One of those is Bill Sams of Athens County, the regional director of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.

Sams is in Denver to, of course, help select a presidential nominee.

But that's not all.

He's also there to promote issues important to the labor movement, and the big one for him is the Employee Free Choice Act.

Unions have other interests, too, says Sams and they go beyond the core economic issues of jobs and health care.

While Democrats convene in Denver,
Republicans are meeting in Minneapolis, where they're hashing out their party's platform ahead of next week's convention in St. Paul.
