West Virginia College President Search Changes
(2008-08-25)
(WOUB) - Lawmakers have asked for one change but
otherwise appear ready to embrace changes to the way West Virginia's public colleges and universities search for, select and pay their presidents.

The wide-ranging proposal from the Higher Education Policy Commission detailed who would chair and vice-chair presidential search committees.

The Legislative Oversight Commission on
Education Accountability voted Monday to instead allow such search panels to choose its own leaders.

The commission must now agree to that change to its drafted emergency rule before it can resubmit it for final approval by lawmakers.

Chancellor Brian Noland said the commission could meet as early as next week.

Noland said the overall proposal will mean a more transparent and open search process.
