WV Humane Society rescues nearly 1,000 dogs
(2008-08-25)
(WOUB) - The Humane Society has stepped in to rescue approximately 1,000 dogs from a kennel in West Virginia.

The dogs are mostly purebred dachshunds and they were found by sheriff's deputies near Parkersburg, West Virginia.

The officers were investigating complaints that the property owner was discharging pollution without a permit.

A Humane Society official says many of the 1,000 dogs had never been touched by a human.

There were no signs of abuse but officials say it would not be possible for any human being to properly care for that many animals.

The breeder surrendered the dogs and agreed to never again operate a dog-breeding business.

The Humane Society says the rescue operation could cost as much as $100,000.
