Renewable energy enterprise zone could bring thousands of jobs
(WOUB) - Southern Ohio Neighbors Group is calling for establishment of a Renewable Energy Enterprise Zone at a U-S Department of Energy site in Pike County.

The watchdog organization wants manufacturers of renewable energy equipment to receive incentives to locate their facilities at the Piketon site.

The result could be the creation of thousands of jobs, says Southern Ohio Neighbors Group spokesman Geoffrey Sea.

The proposal comes at the start of a new development effort by the Site Specific Advisory Board for the former Piketon uranium enrichment plant.

The new Board will make recommendations on the multi billion dollar clean-up of the site and "future land use".

The Neighbors Group says possible incentives for the Renewable Energy Enterprise Zone include subsidized leases and special tax breaks.

The group is adamantly opposed to a spent nuclear fuel storage or processing facility at Piketon.

The first official Advisory Board meeting is scheduled for September 4th.
