Woman pleads not guilty by reason of insanity
(WOUB) - An Athens County woman charged with with one count of tampering with evidence in the miscarriage of her unborn baby is heading to prison for twelve months on a probation violation.

Twenty-five year old Jewell Leon of Hollister admitted in court today to not paying court costs and restitution stemming from a 2006 forgery conviction.

Leon also entered a plea of not guilty - by reason of insanity to the tampering charge.

She is accused of throwing her fetus in the trash after miscarrying in April because she was concerned police would investigate since she was using heroin.

Leon faces a possibility of five additional years behind bars if convicted of that charge.

Athens County assistant prosecutor Keller Blackburn says there is a pre-trial schedule in that case for September 22nd.
